It’s called “vibe coding,” the ability to turn plain language prompts into working apps and interactive learning experiences, and it’s empowering Filipino teachers to become creators of educational technology.

Through platforms like Canva Code, educators across the Philippines are discovering they can build sophisticated digital tools simply by describing what they need. This shift is revolutionizing how teachers approach lesson planning, student engagement, and classroom innovation, removing technical barriers and putting the power of app creation directly in educators’ hands.

For teachers Daniel Timbal, Richard Empimo, Reyna Orlanes, and Vanda Rema, vibe coding isn’t just a convenient tool. It’s reshaping what’s possible in Filipino classrooms.

Breaking Down Technical Barriers
Traditional educational technology often requires teachers to either learn complex coding or rely on IT specialists to build what they need. Vibe coding eliminates this bottleneck entirely.

“I’ve been a teacher for almost 15 years. So I experienced firsthand how much time Filipino educators spend on paperwork, making lesson plans, and in several years, since 2015, our curriculum is constantly changing,” said Daniel Timbal. “Every year we have to learn, we have to acquire skills.”

Rather than waiting for external solutions, Daniel used vibe coding to build GuroHub himself, a free AI-powered lesson planning platform designed around the Philippine curriculum. By simply describing what teachers need, he created a tool that helps educators navigate changing standards more efficiently.

Within its first month, GuroHub attracted more than 2,000 users, proving that when teachers can directly translate their classroom needs into functional tools, the impact is immediate and significant.

From Hours to Minutes: Reclaiming Teaching Time
For Richard Empimo, a teacher at Cristina Calnantoc Rosario National High School in Davao Occidental, the revolution is measured in reclaimed hours.

“We know that making lesson plans is very time-consuming. There are times when I’d spend hours just to complete a lesson plan,” Richard shared.

With vibe coding, Richard created the DepEd ILAW Lesson Planner Website, transforming what used to be painstaking manual work into a streamlined digital process. The ability to describe his needs in plain language and watch them become functional tools means he now spends less time on paperwork and more time refining his actual teaching.

Reyna Orlanes, an English and Media Arts teacher, experienced a different kind of revolution: consolidation. Previously juggling multiple apps for presentations, visuals, and activities, she used vibe coding to create “Diction, Context & Connotation,” an interactive classroom activity that combines learning, practice, and assessment in one seamless experience.

“This really makes the work of teachers very easy in the sense that we don’t need any additional subscriptions if we want to work on our lesson plans or if we want to prepare presentations,” Reyna said.

Engagement Through Innovation
For Vanda Rema, a Science teacher of nearly 8 years, vibe coding is revolutionizing how students interact with complex concepts. As student attention spans evolve, she’s using the technology to make learning more dynamic and participatory.

“I incorporate technology into my lessons to enhance learning and encourage student participation,” Vanda said. “AI has helped a lot because we treat it as a tool to improve teaching. It’s not there to replace teachers because human interaction is still needed.”

Using vibe coding, Vanda created the “Collision Theory Group Activity,” transforming abstract scientific concepts into interactive, gamified experiences. Students don’t just read about collision theory, they engage with it through digital activities designed specifically for their learning needs.

The results speak for themselves: stronger student participation, improved academic performance, and deeper understanding. When lessons become interactive experiences rather than passive lectures, students retain and apply what they learn more effectively.

A Movement, Not Just a Tool
What makes vibe coding truly revolutionary is its accessibility. It’s not reserved for tech-savvy educators or schools with large IT budgets. It’s democratizing educational innovation, allowing any teacher with an idea to bring it to life.

The experiences of Daniel, Richard, Reyna, and Vanda reflect a broader transformation happening across Philippine education. Teachers are no longer just consumers of educational technology, they’re becoming creators, shaping tools that reflect their unique classroom realities and their students’ specific needs.
