Full Cabinet Meeting Tackles Gov’t Underspending

President Benigno Aquino III convened another full Cabinet meeting Thursday to address government underspending which reportedly slowed down the economy in the first quarter of the year, GMA News Online reported.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr.,in a text message to GMA, said the president and his Cabinet will conduct a “review of the first semester performance. It added that the review will emphasize accelerating implementation of all priority development and reform programs.

The President last week met with Cabinet officials directing them to “accelerate the pace of government spending” to match last year’s 6.3-percent economic growth.

The Philippine Statistics Authority reported last May that the economy grew at a slower pace of 5.2 percent in January to March from 5.6 percent a year earlier.
