‘Habagat’ to Bring Rain Over Western Luzon, Visayas

Manila (PNA) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday that southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat” continues to be the dominant weather system affecting the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Jori Loiz said the southwest monsoon, which is associated with the occurrence of intermittent to continuous rains, is the prevailing wind system during the rainy season.

For Monday forecast, Loiz said Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

He added Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Loiz said the state weather bureau continues to monitor a cloud cluster in east of Visayas and Bicol that may intensify into low pressure area.

He added despite the southwest monsoon, there was no gale warning issued as sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft.

In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the western section of Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from southwest with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
