128 Pinoys arrived in Tawi-Tawi

In an ongoing conflict in Sabah, Malaysia, a total of 128 Filipinos were caught in between. According to the Philippines Coast Guard, the Filipinos arrived safely in Tawi-Tawi.

Made up of 58 adults and 70 children, the Filipino refugees were carried in the PCG’s vessels that arrived in Taganak, Tawi-Tawi on April 9.

While they were at sea, the PCG said that there was a refugee that gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The mother and the baby girl were brought to the nearest hospital upon arrival in Tawi-Tawi.

The rest of the refugees were met by the local officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development for any assistance that they needed.

Last month, a number of Filipinos were brought home from Sabah. Some of the followers of the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III occupied the area to voice out their leader’s claim over the land. The Malaysian government have already pressed charges against the Filipinos who participated in the said stand-off.
