Not Yours to Fix: Ask for What You Can’t Earn Yourself
You know that quiet ache. The one where you look inside and wish things were different. A cleaner heart. More patience with people who are still figuring life out. Less weight on your shoulders at the end of a long day. And so you try. You white-knuckle it. You manage. You improve. You put in a better effort and call it growth.
This three-day plan from GOD for WORK & LIFE says something that might set you free. The things inside you that feel broken are not yours to fix. You were never meant to repair your own heart by sheer willpower. Instead of managing what is already there, you are invited to ask God for something new.
Day 1: A New Heart Instead of a Better Effort
Day one zeroes in on the oldest trap we fall into. We think if we just try harder, pray longer, read more, push through the discomfort one more time, eventually we will become the person we want to be. A better version. A cleaner version. A version that does not snap at the kids or spiral at 2 a.m. or carry the whole household on silent shoulders.
But the plan gently reframes the whole thing. God is not asking you to upgrade what is already there. He is offering you something brand new. A new heart. Not a patched-up one. Not a slightly less broken one. A new one.
That changes the posture completely. You stop performing. You stop managing. You stop pretending the effort is working when it is not. You open your hands, and you ask. Not for strength to carry it one more week. For something you could never earn on your own.
The “not yours to fix” language is the key. Some things inside you are not yours to fix. They were never yours to fix. They belong to the One who made them, and He is not waiting for you to get it together before He steps in. He steps in at the mess. At the half-effort. At the honest, tired, “I cannot do this anymore” moment.
So today, the invitation is simple. Stop trying to fix what was never yours to fix. Ask instead. Ask for the new thing. The heart you cannot build with your own two hands.
