LIFTED: A Mental Health Devotional
This five-day devotional is written for people carrying anxiety, depression, heaviness, or painful thoughts that feel hard to silence. It does not treat mental health struggles as a sign of weak faith. It walks through Psalm 91 with honesty, acknowledging fear and darkness while pointing to God as refuge and strength.
Day 1: A Gentle Start
Day one introduces the writer, Miriam, as someone who has walked through dark places in her own mind and heart. She is careful to say that mental, emotional, and spiritual health shape how we live, but they are not the foundation of who we are. Christ is.
The reading permits us to bring heavy things to God without pretending everything is fine. Psalm 91 does not deny trouble. It speaks about danger, fear, and darkness. But it also shows where to run when life feels too much.
The title comes from the image of being lifted up in hands so your foot doesn’t strike a stone. The point is not that we never fall or never feel weak. The point is that God can hold us, help us, and lift us toward truth one step at a time.
Today, the invitation is simple. Take your time. Bring what feels heavy. Ask God to help you see what is false, receive what is true, and take the next faithful step toward help and hope.
