Why Baptism Matters: It’s More Than You Think
There are moments in life that simply mark you. Graduation marks a new season. Marriage marks a covenant. Baptism marks a decision.
This five-day devotional from Xperience Church reminds us that baptism is not just another church tradition. It is a powerful, public step of obedience that declares the life-changing work Jesus has already done in your heart.
Day one points to a surprising moment in the Gospels. Before Jesus ever preached a sermon or called a disciple, He stepped into the Jordan River. He had no sin to repent of. John the Baptist even tried to stop Him. But Jesus said it must be done to fulfill all that God requires.
Jesus did not need baptism. He chose obedience.
That changes how we view the whole thing. Baptism is not about earning God’s love or securing our salvation. We already have that through faith. It is about alignment. It is about trust.
Jesus said if we love Him, we will obey His commandments. Our obedience does not make God love us more, but it proves that we love Him. Spiritual growth is not measured by how much Bible we know. It is measured by how much of it we actually live out.
Sometimes we spend so much time asking God to reveal the next big step that we completely overlook the one He has already made clear.
If you have placed your faith in Jesus but have not been baptized, do not think of it as a boring religious ritual. Think of it as your chance to say, “Jesus, because I love You, I will obey You.”
One simple act of obedience can become the beginning of everything God wants to do in your life.
