Draw Near: Feeling Far From God?

Published

on

Ever known about God but still felt a million miles away from Him? Like you believe He’s there, but you just can’t feel Him anywhere close. This five-day plan from Lifegate Church is built for exactly that feeling. Whether you’re exploring faith for the very first time, trying to find your way back after a long drift, or you’ve been in the game a while and just feel stuck, this plan meets you right where you are. The whole thread running through it is simple and good. The Bible tells the story of a God who moves toward people. Not away. Toward. He wants relationship, not distance. And He still speaks, still invites, and still wants to walk closely with you every single day.

Day 1: God Comes Looking

The writer opens with a question that a lot of us are too embarrassed to ask out loud. Have you ever felt distant from God and wondered if He still wanted anything to do with you?

Then he gets honest. He’s had seasons where he drifted spiritually without even noticing it at first. Life got busy. Prayer got inconsistent. He still believed in God, but if he was being real, he felt disconnected.

And then the reading takes us all the way back to Genesis chapter 3. Adam and Eve sin, shame floods in, and their first instinct is to hide. They run from God. But here’s the detail that changes everything. God doesn’t stay back and wait for them to clean themselves up. He comes looking for them.

That one sentence should rewrite how a lot of us picture God. We’ve been taught, quietly or loudly, that God is distant, angry, or impossible to actually know. But the Bible keeps showing us something different. God is relational. He moves toward people even when they’ve failed, doubted, or wandered far.

And that’s exactly why Jesus matters so much. John writes that Jesus “became flesh and dwelt among us.” God didn’t stay far away from humanity. He stepped right into our messy world to bring us close again.

So here’s the good news for today. Maybe you feel spiritually distant right now. Maybe you’re carrying disappointment, shame, a list of questions, or just a foggy uncertainty. God still pursues people who feel far away. You haven’t outrun Him. You haven’t disappointed Him past the point of return. He’s still coming toward you.

The reflection asks you to get honest. Have you felt distant from God? What contributed to that drift? No judgment. Just naming it.

And the next step is small but powerful. Take five quiet minutes today and just tell God how you’ve actually been feeling. You do not need perfect words, only an open heart.

The prayer underneath it all is short and real. God, thank You that You don’t move away from me when I struggle. Help me stop hiding and begin moving toward You again.

You don’t have to fix yourself before you come back. You just have to stop hiding. He’s already on His way toward you.
