Yours is an enigma never deciphered,
Ours is a resistance ever endeavored.
You never told anyone of your real name.
But we all are awed by your glory and fame.
O, dear Death, are you a friend or an enemy?
Only you can answer this inquiry.
Come or please do not come; but you always come!
Ready or not – misery and pity for some!
Others pray for your delay;
Brave souls say, “Hurry, make my day!”
O, dear Death, are you the beginning or the end?
With this, all our ears to you do we lend.
Violet butterflies hovering over those white rocks,
Grandfather clock echoing incalculable tick-tocks,
Human skulls beautifying the twilight dream,
No wonder why in the advent of night we scream!
O, dear Death, are you a splendor or a cruelty?
But do know we submit to your mercy!
We go to church to hear the requiem.
We believe the resurrection is your true emblem.
For whom the bell tolls we dare not ask
We know that only in your bosom we shall bask.
O, dear Death, you made us all truly equal.
Hence, our devotion for you shall spring eternal.
